$1 Halloween

Our Halloween was FULL of fun!! We recently moved into our awesome ward that had a ward party and a friend in the ward that had a party and then of course our Curtis Halloween carnival!
This was, as you saw from the title, our $1 Halloween. I bought a $1 sports coat at Savers for Brent (but of course the sleeves were too short for him, so I took those in) Then I was able to get a lab coat from my brother that he didn't need anymore. I was able to take it in, shorten, take off the patches and reattatch the pockets. Then I used my scrubs and smartened up with some fake glasses. So who exactly were we? Dr House and Cameren, his assistant Doctor of course!! Brent, by the way, made an AWESOME "House"!! He was super sarcastic with everyone, was limping and popping pills all night!! He was great!!

Porter insisted on being a dog that I had gotten from a friend. It was a little small but it worked. So naturally I made a "Dog Catcher" costume for Mason. Used an old hat to say dog catcher with a picture of a dog and then found some of his old cargo shorts to make his vest. It worked really well actually, just cut the front open and the pockets for his arms. Then used all the patches from the lab coat! I felt somewhat creative. Not as creative as last year but it worked great!

(this is the best picture I got of Porters Dog costume)
The dog catcher is taking in the Dog!!
This was just too cute...he was actually cooperating when we were at the picture booth
My vest creation out of shorts

Porter in Preschool

Porter has a love hate relationship with preschool. Usually I'm dragging him in because he doesn't want to go, and then dragging him out because he doesn't want to leave. I'm so confused!

We started a preschool Co-op where we take turns teaching at our hosue and go on feild trips and such. It's so much fun and I love having a little time each week with JUST Mason!

This day it was at my house. We were learning the letter A and things that started with it. Animals, Aligators, Apples and learned a few songs. It was fun making our alligators!

Mason's recent obsessions

Here are Mason's most recent obcessions;

Soap- Getting on the counter and pushing soap onto his hand and then rubbing it into his hair, I'm constantly giving him a shower in the kitchen sink (so soap, water ad he LOVES washing his hands!!!)

Shoes- Trying on my shoes, well not just shoes but particularly my High heels and especially the colorful yellow ones I got

Naps-Porter was the hardest child to put to bed for naps or night time bed. Mason on the other hand is an angel when it comes to going to bed. When the time comes to go "nigh night" he will actually ask to go to bed. We will bring him into his room (actually, lately he's been choosing to sleep in the guest room) with his blankey and pacifier and he will practically jump out of my arms and into his crib. Then after singing his song as I walk out we play a little game.
Me- " ok Night night Mason, Love you"
Mason- " Night night, love you"
Me- "Love you too"
Mason- "Love you too"
Me- "love you more"
Mason - "Love you more"
Me- "love you Night night"
Mason- "Love you, Night night"

I sure love our little game!!

Copy Cat- talking, copying anything we say including saying prayers! So cute! He does a great job!

Brotherly Love

I'm so glad I captured this picture. (don't ask me why Porter's shirt is off...) It was so sweet. We were getting back to our house late one night and although Mason is the better sleeper Porter is the one who almost ALWAYS falls asleep in the car at night. I looked back and saw this sweet shot and by the time we got home Mason was still holding on to his brothers passed out hand. This just shows how much Mason loves his brother! These two love playing, wrestling, copying, sharing, taking toys away, giving hugs and kisses. I love when they have to apologize to each other. Not because they did something they weren't supposed to, but because they forgive each other so quickly say sorry and my favorite the hug or usually hugs! They are immediately friends again and ready to play!

I love these boys and all the energy and love they bring into our home. I love so much that they are friends and love each other.

Our Cruise Part 1- At Sea

We are HOOKED! So much to do, see and eat on the boat alone!! The best part was that it was just Brent and I ( and 3,000 other people) together for 5 whole days!! LOVED IT! (these are all pics from my phone from the last few days, I'm still working on settings)

Our humble abode, and our first towel buddy, Eleph-I-Know
The beautiful staircase that looks all the way to the top and has glass elevators along it
Covered with paper at the second show. It was seriously a good broadway show!
On one of our ship tours we made sure to stop by the haunted room R24, another guest told us someone was murdered there last month.
Towel buddy #2- monkey with my glasses onUs with the Magician that goes around the dining room. We were buds! He gave Brent dental floss and me a card with my signature on it! Pretty cool!
There were 2 hypnotist shows, and Brent, being the skeptic that he is, volunteered to make a fool of himself. Fortunately, it didn't work on him and he was sent back to his seat.

The golf coarse and ping pong paddles, ya we did both, on the ship!

Out on deck, saying goodbye to Mexico, with lemonade and Hot chocolate in hand

Our Cuise Part 2- On Land

For some reason, no matter how amazing the ship was and that there was tons to do and eat on the ship there was an excitement about getting to our destinations! It was fun to explore walk around and hang out.

Our first stop was Cata
lina, California. Getting on and off the boat was one of the coolest parts. We were anchored down so they literally had little boats come right up to the cruise ship, which had and open staircase to the ocean. We walked down the stairs and onto our little boat taxi, free of course, and over to land. Brent did a little research and found a place we could rent snorkel gear for a fraction of the cruise price. We walked down to "lover Cove", put on our gear and snorkeled for a couple hours. It was my first time and very cool. It was amazing how you just didn't get tired. We ate lunch, returned our gear, walked around the island a bit and back temporary home. It was so nice and relaxing! I loved it!

Look at that...AMAZING!SNORKELING!! LOVED IT!!

That's our boat back there! Isn't that guy cute!

Next stop Ensenada, Mexico. This was a very touristy spot, mostly just for shopping, drinking and of course their fish tacos! I was really looking forward to the shopping part. I was a little disappointed, but I found some fun jewlry and even got pretty good at bargaining. Brent was busy talking to all the local and having fun using his Spanish again. It was funny when they would turn to me and talk to me in Spanish. No hablo espano (I know that's all wrong). I was actually surprised how much I caught when they were talking though. Fish tacos were good. I am so not used to the spicey salsa though. Brent got his statue, he collects from every countrey he visits and also got a good deal on a hammock.

Thier flag was increadibly huge!

Fish Tacos...YUMM

Shopping!

Beautifying my home

My crafty side has really come out more. Not that I'm the best at it, I just want to do crafts more and more! It's way fun and so far has been cheap!

This was a boring black frame I mod podged to add color to my bed room (Ive got to reattatch the buttons that Mason pulled off

My sister-in-laws, Kristin and Ashley, and I got together and had fun Mod Podging Letters one day! It was way fun to hang out!!
This is really cute in Masons room. Especially since his walls are still white. Can't wait to paint those walls. And now I know what my color scheme will be! (It looks better in person)

I've loved these canisters in my kitchen! However they didn't match my red black and white color scheme in there so I prettied them up a bitWhat do you think?

Happy Bday Dad

We always do something really fun for my dad on his bday! This year Michelle invited us all to her boyfriend, Mikes, house to ride horses since dad grew up on a farm and riding horses. We got Olive garden, rode horses and had fun hanging out. LOVE YOU DAD!

Picnic

A few weeks ago the weather was ok by 5pm so Brent called me and asked if we wanted to go have a picnic! I Jumped at the idea! Ceasar Chavez park is literally a minute away with a pretty pond, ducks, playgrounds and walkways to ride bikes. So I quickly put together a portable dinner with fried chicken, potatoe wedges, watermelon and rolls. It was like a real southern picnic. We loaded up bikes, picnic blanket, dinner and the kids into the car. We had a great time! Mason loved going off to run after the ducks that were as big or bigger than him and Porter had fun riding his bike all over. We even we searching for a geo cache, but didn't find it :( ! It was such a fun thing to do together!

Being a MOTHER

There are definitely a lot of hard things about being a mother. Fortunately, it is all worth it when you take into consideration all the blessings you get to witness on a day to day basis. For some reason, and not that I admit this to the world very willingly, but lately I have been feeling overwhelmed and in a rut. I've had some really good conversations with Brent and he always knows what to say to make me feel better. One conversation in particular made me feel better about feeling overwhelmed. Brent recalled some talk he heard when the speaker was attempting to name off all the things us women and mothers do everyday and how mathematically it is not possible to get it all done. However, somehow we manage to do it! Ya that made me feel good. Then he was telling me some things he read in "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" and how we just really need to prioritize. So I'm hoping to read that book. In relief Society this Sunday it really stuck me how blessed I am to be a mother to these sweet boys and how blessed we are that I can stay home with them! I know I can to a better job taking care of them than anyone else can and that really makes me feel good. Sometimes I really want to back to school and get my degree or be out in the workforce, but for now I know my place is here, at home. I'm so happy for that opportunity!

On a lighter note...being a mother you've got to be prepared for anything....seriously! For example....
As a Mother, Be prepared FOR....

...Exhaustion, whether it's YOU or your little ones.
Caution: you may fall asleep where ever you are

...Work, work and more work.
Many times that work will pay off and you'll see how your little ones are helping too!
....Big Messes
Can you believe this was clean 5 minutes earlier?! I was upstairs and it was too quiet so I went to check on the boys and WOW...what a Mess!
I got quote from my mother-in-law that hangs in my medicine cabinent so I can see it often that says "If it can be vacuumed up, wiped off or washed out, don't worry about it. Ya I'm still working on that one :)
...Lots of Laughter
the things they come up with crack me up!!
...Sweet moments
This picture depicts Porter and their love so well. Here Mason was crying in the car and Porter sweetly reaches across to hold his little brothers hand! Mason really loves his big brother and they are becoming best friends!
...Setting an example and hoping they pick up the good things ;)
Of course every time I came over to take a picture Porter shied away and Mason looked at me. I turned around one day to see them both with their scriptures singing "book of Mormon Stories"
I love it!
...Owwies!
Some big some small. Many times we cry with them.
...Teaching, growing and watching them experience this wonderful world
...Be flexible
Maybe I was working out and sweating for an hour but when the opportunity to see a cool firetuck presents it's self, we'll be there. Even taking pictures
...did I mention messes?! ;) These are great opportunities to teach how to clean up and take care of out belongings though :)
...Confusion, understanding and then of course laughter
I had just washed the car and they poured out the water. Porter then gasps and yells "Mommy!..ITS YOU!!" What? Oh, I can see that..can you? (theres a head arms and legs...it totally resembles me don't you think?)
...witnessing unconditional love
These two just love haning out together! This is another time they were too quiet so I went looking for them. Instead of a mess I found them reading together. So sweet!
....Fun times and funny faces
They love making us laugh, whether we should be laughing or not.
And if you know Mason at all, you know he is the master of facial expressions! Funny, mad, happy, sad, pouting etc. (not that this picture depicts that too well)
...Occasional silence, esp in the car
got to love when they fall asleep...esp at the SAME TIME!! :)
...an abundant amount of LOVE
I LOVE YO BOYS!
Ok I think the whole thing my mother-in-law gave me is noteworthy. She gave us this little sheet for mothers day highlighting chapter headings of a book. They include;
*Learn to laugh
*Be discerning: sometimes a one mile effort is enough
*Create a few things that can be counted on
*Know when to holler for help
*If it can be vacuumed up, wiped off or washed out, don't worry about it
*Accept life as a glorious adventure full of gifts for you
*Be grateful for the things you have to do
*Remember that years fly by, even though some of the days are mighty long
*It's worth it

Those really help me! Thanks Mom. :)
